Rappel de la mort et de l'au-delà Kitâb al-mawt wa mâ ba'dahâ (Revivification des sciences de la religion)

It is with The Book of Death and the Hereafter that Imam Al-Ghazali completes his immense summa, the Revivification of the Sciences of Religion (Ihya 'ulûm al-Dîn), which scholars of different eras consider to be the most exhaustive on the subject.
The author (may God have mercy on him and be pleased with him) has divided this book into two large parts. In the first, he gives us the details concerning the beginnings and consequences of death. In the second part, he speaks to us of the condition of the dead.
Drawing on the Holy Book and the prophetic tradition, and referring to the stories of the ancients and the vision of the saints, Ghazali begins by describing the different phases of death until the blowing of the Trumpet, then provides us with a broad description of the land where the dead will be gathered; of the Day of Resurrection and its vicissitudes; of the interrogation by the angels Munkîr and Nakîr; of the Balance where actions will be weighed; of the bridge that men will have to cross; of the intercession of the prophets, the saints and the virtuous; of the pool; of Hell and its calamities; of Paradise and its delights and finally, of the infinite mercy of God.
